Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Scholarships
Previous recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship in subsequent
years, but must reapply each year. Students may download an application online and return
all requested information to NAPSLO by fax at 816-741-5409 or send directly to
the NAPSLO office at the below address.

In order to be eligible for this Scholarship, students must:
Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an undergraduate or postgraduate
degree program, majoring in Actuarial Science, Business, Economics, Finance,
Insurance, Management, Risk Management, or Statistics. Majors must be related
to a career in insurance.
Have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Entering freshmen must rank in the top 25
percent of their high school class or have a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Complete and submit the scholarship application form, including a personal
statement of career objectives, academic accomplishments, and pertinent
extracurricular activities, as well as reasons for applying for this
scholarship. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Have two scholarship recommendations submitted, one from an academic advisor
and one from an employer.
Have an
official academic transcript forwarded to the Scholarship Committee. Financial
need will be considered in the awarding of the scholarships.
Grant Program
The Board of Directors of the Foundation will establish the criteria and
procedures for accepting, reviewing and approving grant requests and proposals.
The Foundation Board will annually establish a budget for the grant program.
Any decision to accept or reject an institution's application for a grant is
within the complete discretion of the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational
Foundation Board of Directors.
Qualifying Criteria
The applicant institution must have an established insurance or risk management
degree program or a representative number of insurance or risk management
courses.
The applicant institution must submit a written application to the Foundation
for grant monies.
The written application must contain at least the following information:
Statement of purpose for the grant.
Amount of money required to accomplish the purpose, including a project budget
outlining, in detail, proposed expenditures and how the Foundation grant money
would be used.
Indication of time it will take to complete the project for which the grant
money is requested.
Other
The grant program will be administered by the Foundation's Selection Committee,
which was established by the Foundation Board to evaluate and select applicants
for scholarships from the Rolland L. Wiegers Educational Scholarship Program.
